Dirrrty South

Awful. That's about how I felt watching LSU suck wind and falter against UT who really puts it together when the QB they want is strapped in. I don't like Tennessee at all. They get away with murder ( holding penalties, chop blocks..not recruiting violations I haven't seen those), and they have a smug triumverent of coaches I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. Enough, finally though Erik Ainge did just enough to sit the pine for one more year. I saw this kid in person and was impressed, but he seems to have regressed. And the Claussens are a poor man's Manning. Of course the next Claussen looks like the next coming of Eli.

Other thoughts for the first month of college ball: Ted Ginn = Rocket Ismail.
Bob Davie's corpse is a good start. I wrote that note to self two weeks ago when he called the USC/Georgia game. Last night Ron Franklin (the best) brought Davie's game up a notch from putrid. Let the hate mail begin, but Charlie Whitehurst is the 2nd best QB in the nation. Let me qualify that: Throwing QB. I don't like running/option style qb's unless its the 80's or 90's and we're talking Oklahoma v. Nebraska. There aren't many throwing QB's out there. Don't get me wrong Chris Leak is fantastic and so are Matt Leinhart's backups, but there just isn't much other competition for a best throwing QB out there. If I'm drafting today for a Quarterback, I pick Charlie second.

The High Five:

1. Colts
2. Patriots
3. Steelers
4. Bengals
5. Buccaneers

The High Five Jr.
1. USC
2. Texas
3. Va Tech
4. Florida
5. FSU-not the fifth best but undefeated and I'll give them the respect for now.

Iowa 19 Ohio St. 14

Va Tech 45 Ga Tech 24...Va Tech has scored 45 in two straight games, it seems their limit...

So. Cal 112 Oregon 23..They go down 10-7 with 54 minutes to go and put the starters back in to make sure they send a message to the Pac 10 or as I call it Conference USC. Best job in America...Seal, second best job punting for USC.

Pick's for Week 3

Good evening sports fans. I bring you my picks for this Saturday's run of games.

BC 20 FSU 17
Clemson 28 Miami 20
UT 9 UF 17
UCLA 35 Okla 21

South Carolina can get back to the win column with a tidy "W" over Alabama. I'd give Alabama more credit, but I think this will be our first coaching victory. Spurrier vs. Mike Shula, please. I'm biased but I don't think it is even close. There are two coaches that aren't SEC caliber in the west and Shula is one of them.

USC 26 Alabama 10

SO. Cal 35 Arkansas 15
Fresno St. 27 Oregon 24

Week 2 Pick'em

Guys and Gals get your pencils....here we go!

Notre Dame 19 Michigan 22
Clemson 34 Maryland 25
LSU 10 Arizona ST. 17 I had LSU in the Natl Championship...I don't think they can get it together now all things considered.

UGA 21 USC 13
Ohio ST. 13 Texas 7
Cal 34 Washington 7
Va Tech 38 Duke 6
Auburn 21 Miss St. 12
Georgia Tech 17 UNC 0
Wake Forrest 24 Nebraska 27

Two good intra-conference games next week. NFL starts tonight, Patriots can beat the Raiders any day of the week and possibly twice tonight. More NFL coming up. My fantasy team is poised for dominace, but will they. If each player does nearly what I expect I could have a great year. I am happy at all positions, excited with some. More later. Geaux LSU!!! and as always Go Cocks.

****Update****

I am now picking LSU over Arizona St. I'll go now with 23-17. I've been waffling now I'm back with the Bayou Bengals.

Week 1 in the Books

I got 7 of 9 correct with out looking at points I did pretty well.

Dennis Franchione looked like a damn fool, and UGA was impressive defensively. What will this week hold in store....

USC is going to Athens, GA to play the hated Georgia, Georgia Bulldogs...not gonna be pretty.

Texas heads to Columbus for a Game of the Century style battle in week 2. Only the 17th Game of the Century this century.

Picks coming up soon...Heisman look, and rankings all coming up.

Week 1 Picks

We kick off the college football season tonight. I'll be at the first game of the year in Columbia, SC pulling my beloved Gamecocks through our Spurrier-era debut.

USC should have no problems with Central Florida, but due to the fight in Clemson last November we may struggle. We've got several players suspended, and very young reserves. However we are an SEC team playing the UCF Knights and their 15 game losing steak.

USC 20 UCF 9

For the rest of the country watch all of the favorites to win. The lone exceptions are in Athens, Clemson and maybe Knoxville. Surprising...no. UTenn plays UAB, everybody should know Darrell Hackney he's back. I'm only saying it could be more interesting than anyone expects.

UT 45 UAB 34
UGA 27 Boise ST. 24
Clemson 19 Texas A&M 14
Auburn 31 Georgia Tech 17
Louisville 56 UK 10
Va Tech 49 NCST 7
Miami 24 FSU 12

Upset of the Week: Notre Dame 28 Pitt 21...is that an upset. Pitt's got nothing but a great wideout and Wannstedt.

****ADDED****

One more thing, I forgot to ask my "poll question". Since no one really ever gives comments, I'll just give you my feelings. Question would have been: Given USC's (So. Cal) rebirth in football glory who would you most like to see comeback to the National Championship spotlight?

Your choices are limitless but here are the one's I've selected:
BYU
Penn ST.
Navy
Nebraska
Pittsburgh
Alabama

Each have had sustained sucess, but I would most like to see Nebraska come back into an every season powerhouse, followed by Alabama. Nebraska was so much fun to watch dominate teams from the trenches and the sidelines. I was young and stupid but could easily sense Coach Osbourne's ability to lead and manage a team. Yes he lost a couple of Nat'l Championship games, but he's got a fist full of gold now. My all-time favorite Non-SC player is Tommie Frazier for pretty obvious reasons. He was the best college quarterback of all time, and those were my most formative years.

Toss that around see how it plays...get back to me, oh and if anyone wants to see Pittsburgh you will be banned.
